Our recent trip to Burundi

We're back from Burundi, not without nostalgia for that place full of humanity, affection, and with a nature which alone can to fall in love even those who believe that Africa is a difficult and inhospitable place.

Our Maternity is working to the best of his ability. There is still much room for improvement, but we are satisfied the first year of operation. In this period were followed about nine hundred pregnant women, with monthly checks and free medical care. Unfortunately, due to cultural conditioning hard to eradicate, often prefer to give birth at home - more often than a cabin - and the risk that you may easily guess. Sister Josephine, nurse midwife, is making a 'major campaign to raise awareness among women of the villages and surrounding hills with encouraging results.

This time in collaboration with the 'Seeds of Peace Association , Buta we went to an eye doctor and his team, and we have the opportunity to those who needed to be visited and receive a prescription for glasses that will be delivered free in February. Also in February the patient was discovered a small cataract or other eye diseases could be made by the same doctor who has visited.

We were also able to give free almost all vitamins, in this environment are very important to integrate a power little changed.

After visiting the hospital in Bururi, the medical team has determined that working in the hospital operating room, you could face serious risks of infections, a risk which we're playing.

So, after a careful study of the possibility and feasibility, we decided to transform a part of motherhood, still not used full time in the operating room, so they can operate, as well as eye diseases, surgical and other diseases in the territory are not considered because of lack of facilities.

During his stay in Buta were visited about three hundred people, the team has worked continuously 10 days to 12, from 8 to 19.

We also had the good fortune to have also a midwife in the group Seeds of Peace that could compete in a discreet and professional employees who work in maternity enhancing the possibility of a cultural and professional exchange about pregnancy and at delivery, which will certainly improve our and their way of working in this area so important and full of life. The Association

Seeds of Peace has also provided an ultrasound to motherhood which will allow time to plan the transportation of women in the hospital of Bururi, twelve kilometers away from Buta, so as to minimize the risks and for the mother and child.

As you can understand from these few lines, the work ahead is great, but we can assure you that the joy and sense of well being you feel a bit of improvement in programming for children, their families and community makes us feel person / tool that can really make a change and do something.

Thank you again for your generosity, because without you we could not do everything that is already in place and we assure you, works best.

soon as possible a degree of planning, we will provide information on initiatives that will be made available the necessary resources to move forward.

Thank you so much from us, Concetta, Frank, Louis and Mark, we had the good fortune to see for themselves on the job, and the whole group Kamar.
